I heart Faces * Week 38 * BLUE

Photobucket

It's blue week at "i heart faces"! Gosh, did I have a hard time picking a photo!! Lots of blue when you have two girls with blue eyes :-). But I ended up choosing a more unusual shot of Grace on a round, blue swing. I hope you like it!

Matilda Jane "Gypsy Blue" Part 1

It is kind of late and my words won't flow... so I'll just go right to pictures, how about that?

Matilda Jane Clothing came out with a fabulous new line called "Gypsy Blue". Grace is wearing the chrissy dress with the striped ruffled leggings, Erina is sporting the libby shirt and neopolitan tights (with a gap denim skirt).

Let me just say my girls were in rare form. They even dragged suitcases and a big old book out to the marsh. And all that after dinner. Oh, and it was windy... which made wearing fall clothes a little more bearable on a hot day. I had nothing to do with their poses... it's all Erina & Grace style ;-).

Labor Day Camping Trip

I know, I'm a bit behind... Labor Day is long gone! Better late than never, right?

We were invited to join our "doran beach camping buddies" for another camping weekend in the foothills. I was a bit iffy about it... okay, let's be honest, I really didn't want to go. I like my two yearly camping trips. I know what to expect and come prepared. But this was out of my comfort zone. Uhhh, a new place with lots of NEW people. Did I say LOTS? Did I say NEW? Not very good for shy me!

In the end I did it for the kids. They absolutely love to camp and hang out with their friends. Did they have a blast? YES. Did I? Who cares!! :-D

Exciting things that happened:
- Grace caught her very first fish (and I wasn't even there to take a pic!!!!!)
- Traci dragged Julie and myself to the BAR. I haven't been inside a bar in forever! I drank two Southern Comforts on the rocks and was a happy camper (ha, ha)
- I was hugely jealous of the cool camper who had an i-phone and filmed the giant campfire to post on facebook
- I finished an entire book!!!!
- We didn't freeze to death (yes, that's exciting... you wouldn't even believe how many layers of clothes I wore to bed)

Erina's one and only try at fishing
Photobucket

Don't they look wonderfully bored?
Photobucket

Christopher was totally into it!
Photobucket

Swimming... I have to say, the lake was lovely
Photobucket

Total hot spot of the entire campground?? Our hammock!!
Photobucket

Look at all those dangling legs!
Photobucket

Erina hung out with me while the gang went fishing on day 2. Can you tell she wanted to go swimming?
Photobucket

And that's it for today! Good night!

Ok, just one more!!!

I Heart Faces * Week 37 * Completely Candid

I had to dig a while to find an entry for this week! This was actually taken before I had my DSLR camera... I love this shot so much. I love how my daughter and the dog seem to have a staring contest. I love the smirk on her face because she has a cookie and the dog doesn't. I love how my hubby is looking at the scene. I love that nobody seems to notice ME.

I Heart Faces * Week 36 * Contemplative

I have been quietly lurking on the I Heart Faces blog for a while... and this week I figured I should join the fun! When I read the challenge theme I knew right away which picture to enter.

Photobucket

It was taken this summer during a gondola ride in the Swiss mountains. My Grace seems deep in thought, maybe she's worried about the safety of the gondola or maybe she's just marveling at the beauty of the mountains. Who knows? But she sure is thinking :-)!

Random Cuteness!

Just some cute kids in cute clothes =).

I'm itching to do a nice shoot with Grace... it's been so hot here lately, I don't want to bug her. Therefor I feel like I'm in a photography slump, ugh!!! May also have something to do with my expired lightroom trial. Gosh, I love that program and need to buy it SOON... very soon. I don't think I can do without it anymore.

These were all taken in Switzerland... feels like it's been ages. Ugh again!

Karate: Orange Belt

Grace was testing for the orange belt at the end of August! I was so nervous for her, I really have no idea how she remembers all the different moves. She froze up once, but she told me later she couldn't hear what the sensei was asking her to do. Testing is a long and boring process. Grace had to sit still and wait for 38 minutes (yes, I was watching the clock, lol) until she had her turn.

The biggest deal about testing is the board breaking. She had to break through two boards this time around.... you don't break the boards, you don't get a new belt!!! And they never, ever practice this skill!!!

Ok, here are two little videos. First one I took from outside the room, during the first part of testing. Second one is the board breaking.

Changing of the belts!

I'm so proud of my little girl! She takes karate very serious and I'm thrilled that she found a sport that she enjoys.

Doran Beach

Ah... Doran Beach. I have a love/hate relationship with this place. I love watching the kids play and explore the ocean and all that comes with it. I hate the foggy, windy conditions... I'm not much of a beach camper, I humbly admit to that.

We do have a great system down by now. Erina and I sleep in the back of the car, Brian and Grace sleep in a tiny igloo tent covered in a tarp.

Photobucket

And we pack tons of clothes for the girls, even though we only spend two nights there... camping close to the water makes for a lot of wet, cold, little campers =).

Photobucket

But in the end the love is greater... must be, otherwise I wouldn't agree to go back every year! Our camp is right inbetween the ocean and part of the bay. And the bay side is very shallow, which gives the kids a lot of freedom to roam.

Photobucket

And I get a lot of great photo opportunities!

Lots of seaweed... but the kids didn't mind at all!

We found lots of starfish and even a good sized crab!

Photobucket

Photobucket

My darling Erina... she seems to wear her food on her face all the time. Here she realized it and you get a good view of her dirty fingernails instead... he, he!

Photobucket

Foggy... foggy... foggy

Photobucket

And that's the end. Now I need to finish packing for our next camping trip. Yep, we're being very outdoorsy this season =)!

Vacation within a vacation

That's just what we did... we went on a one week vacation during our vacation :-).

It was a girl only trip which included my mom, my aunt, my cousin and her two girls... and the three of us, of course. We went to beautiful Kandersteg by train... let me tell you, trains are the best in Switzerland. They are on time all the time! Sometimes it gets a little crowded though, especially if you go to the mountains in the middle of summer. But it was all good, even when our six suitcases got buried under other folks huge backpacks or when I almost fell out of the train as the door opened because I had no room to move out of the way =).

I told myself I would keep this short and sweet. I have lots of laundry to fold today!!

So please just enjoy these pictures without much explanation.

Our cozy hotel, run by an 80 year old sweet lady
Photobucket

Our tiny bathroom... I had to duck to fit in the door!
Photobucket

Beautiful mountains... my cousin, auntie and mom look so tiny compared to the huge mountains!
Photobucket

Delicious food... Roesti with bacon & eggs... and no, that's not breakfast =)
Photobucket

Gondola rides... which scared some.
Photobucket

Hiking was rewarded with a cool foot dip in Lake Oeschinen
Photobucket

Cows... lots of them, just roaming free, minding their own business
Photobucket

The Castle of Thun left a great impression on my girls, they had never seen one up close before.
Photobucket

All chained up in one of the castle towers =)
Photobucket

Old Swiss cannon!!
Photobucket

Gorgeous view from the top of the tower... looking over the town of Thun
Photobucket

Hiking in the Gastern Valley. I was afraid that one of the kids would slip and disappear in the roaring river Kander forever!! Our hiking path is the one on the left... the rocky little one, lol.
Photobucket

I loved hiking in the woods, the trees were so tall and skinny!
Photobucket

Slightly elated after a day of hiking =)
Photobucket

On our last day the kids wanted to relax at the public pool.
Photobucket

Photobucket

That's it for now! I'll be back with more soon... next up, camping at Doran beach!
