Caro

Ok, back to our Switzerland program =). I'm having a very hard time blogging about it all... there's simply too much to share. I know I've said it before... so excuse my repetitiveness (is that a word?).

Caro is my best friend ever. We met when I was six and lived next door to each other until we moved out of our parent's houses. Our parents are still neighbors to this day. Next year Caro and I will celebrate our 30 year friendship anniversary! Pretty amazing, he? Best friend doesn't seem like a good enough word, she really is more like a sister to me. We saw each other every day growing up, we shared good times and bad... we fought like sisters as well!

Caro is the first person I visit when I get to Switzerland. She owns a pottery store in our village.... gosh, she is such a talented thing! She started out by painting pottery, then decided to learn how to make her own pottery. By now pretty much everything in her store is made by her... from scratch.

Caro is also my girl's hero. They simply adore her! She has saved the day many times during our many visits to Switzerland. One of my favorite stories. Erina was about three years old, it was a Sunday and all of a sudden Erina was just miserable, crying that she wanted to go home. It was BAD. I had no idea what brought this on, usually she was this happy-go-lucky little girl!!! When I calmed her down, I asked her why she wanted to go home so badly. She sniffled "I want to play with my playdoh." A-ha! Bad thing was that this all happened on a Sunday. Stores are closed on Sundays!! It just happened that Caro called and heard Erina crying in the background. So I told her the whys and whats. Believe it or not, an hour later Caro rang our doorbell with a playdoh set in her hands. She drove thirty minutes each way to a random store that was open (it was a highway rest area with restaurant and STORE). Pretty amazing, right?

Caro also takes us on a shopping spree each year. It's a tradition by now and the girls are always super excited when the day comes. Caro spoils them rotten!!! But her argument is that she only gets to see them once a year. So it's like birthday & Christmas all tossed in one.

Here's Caro with my girls after this year's shopping. This is the reason why I came home with an additional suitcase, lol!!

We also had a fun day with clay at her store. First they each made something for Daddy the old-fashioned way... rolling little clay snakes (what they call them, lol) and stacking them up.

Then it was time to try the pottery wheel! Caro showed them how it's done first.

She went from this...

to this in a matter of seconds! And it looked SO easy!

Then it was the girl's turn... and they realized pretty fast that it is NOT easy to do. But it was fun! And messy!!!

I tried it too... and I can't tell you how relaxing it felt. Seriously, if I ever need another hobby I know what it'll be. Of course we had to take our crooked cups home and we giggle every time we use one =).

Last but not least, Caro also supplies the girls with scooters every year. I don't think she even knows how thankful I am. Those scooters keep my girls entertained for hours.

I'm sorry this post is so long! And Caro, if you ever read this, please know how much we love you and appreciate all the things you do for us! Danke vielmol!

Baby Holden

Last weekend we finally got to meet the newest baby of the family. I'm a new auntie, woohoo! Holden was born while we were in Switzerland, my sister-in-law actually had him at home... she's a brave one for sure!

We were super excited on the drive to Alameda. Can you tell by Erina's face?

And now look at sweet Holden... almost 6 weeks old and so perfect. I couldn't get enough of him, his little fingers & piggies, his soft round cheeks...

And some black & white shots... I personally really love the last one with his forehead wrinkled like he's in deep thought. I wonder what he was thinking about?

It was a fun day with the loud McSweeney family. They are seriously loud, but I love them all :-). And Holden wasn't bothered by the noise at all... he's gonna fit right in, I just know it.

One last silly picture for you all. It's silly because of the way I took it... see, Grace and I have this thing going. She will either walk or sit behind me and ask me to put my camera upside down over my head and try to get a picture of her. We end up with many seriously funny pictures that way. And this one was taken in the car that Sunday evening... I didn't even crop it, I just halfed her face by accident. I think it looks pretty cool :-).

Too much to say!

I have been editing pictures like a crazy person, I tend to get lost in the cool editing program, which means... it takes me FOREVER. All the while I kept thinking about how I would blog about our fabulous trip. I have so much to say, so much to share!! And now I'm feeling overwhelmed... there is no way to show you five weeks of summer in a few posts.

But I have to start somewhere, right?

Sleeping in was simply wonderful... ah, I even took some naps myself. That's what summer is all about, relaxing and drifting off to dreamland no matter the time of day.

Spending time with my parents was priceless. Watching them play with my girls... bonding even though there's a language barrier. Simply amazing.

Long evening walks... every single day. Watching the sun set. Smelling fresh cut hay. Horses riding by.

Playing all day long. No homework, no extra activities, no stress.

Getting along. No fighting, no whining. And I'm not kidding and painting my world rosy. I'm blessed with two girls who simply get along and are best buddies. I'm lucky indeed.

Good eats. Enjoying the luxury of being served and appreciating it more than ever. I am SO thankful to my mom for spoiling me. I guess I'm still her little girl too :-).Photobucket

We're back!

Photobucket

Ah... what a lovely summer break we had! We had lots of fun adventures in Switzerland, but mostly enjoyed hanging out with family. Grace summed it up perfectly about three weeks into the trip. She talked about something she would like to do for Christmas and it involved her Swiss peeps. Erina looked at her and said "Grace, you won't be here for Christmas!!!" and my sweet Grace shrugged and said "Oh, I forgot I don't live here". And that's just how I felt. So comfortable, I could have forgotten that I don't live there anymore. But since I'm a grown-up, I don't forget where I actually belong... which is right here besides my honey Brian.

I have lots of pictures to share, but I'm a bit slow these days. While we were gone my good old PC decided to take its last breath... so I came home to a brand spankin' new i-mac. It's exciting, but also frustrating. I don't like change. I'm just that way. I know it will be all good and I will love my mac soon. But right now it feels unfamiliar. Anyways... I'll give you more summer pics really soon. For right now these will have to do.
