A Quicky

Just a quick one before I go to bed. I took this today at the park... with my 50mm that won't auto focus anymore. Gosh, it's hard to manually focus on moving kids!! For some reason this picture stood out to me, even though the focus is somewhere on her nose. I guess I really like her serious face.

Sweet Goodness

Oh, how we love baked goodies... breads, cookies, cones... we'll take them all! One of our very favorite places is the German Bakery in Vacaville. I still remember when my friend Peggie took me there for my birthday lunch many, many years ago. I felt like I was back home in Switzerland. Breads, rolls, croissants all neatly lined up... mhhh, I'm drooling!

Anyways, I took the girls over there today for a snack before ice skating. Looky at this hazelnut twist....

My safe Erina went for a chocolate croissant
Chomp, chomp

I love the look on Grace's face... I suppose she didn't want a hug.
And this is what I got, when I asked for their goofiest faces

Oh, and ice skating was fun. It was a free event for our school and it was BUSY! I didn't bring my camera in since I was on the ice with my girls. We don't go ice skating very often and they still needed my hands to hold them up. But I'm proud to say that both of them took to it easy and were skating on their own by the end of the session.

Now we just have to go more often!

A little bit of this and a little bit of that

I don't really have anything interesting to blog about, so you're just gonna have to listen to me blabbing away :-).

It's been raining for DAYS, which really is a good thing, since California needs it desperately. BUT it also darkens my mood, I crawl into my little HOLE and don't want to come out. I called myself a RECLUSE several times during this long weekend.

The girls had a sleepover at their friend Brittney's house last Friday. Brian and I were supposed to go on a hot steamy date in San Francisco. See how I'm saying "supposed to"? Because we ended up not going... like two boring old folks. BUT to our defense, it was raining, it was a Friday and traffic into the city would have been horrid. Our second plan was dinner and a movie. BUT it rained, it was cold, it was dark. So Brian picked up my favorite Thai dinner (green curry, if you care to know) and we stayed in our cozy home. I like my home, it's everything I ever wanted... plus some.

Now to my poor hubby. He's been one sick puppy since Sunday :-(. We're not sure if it's food poisoning or just a bug, but the poory soul is seriously ill. He can't keep any food down and has terrible stomach cramps. He went to the doctor today, just to make sure it's not the appendix. Right now he's finally sleeping, the doc gave him some meds for the nausea.

What have I been up to... besides hiding in my hole? I've been busy getting my kids outgrown (or unloved ;-) clothes listed on Ebay. You know what finally motivated me? The countdown to the Matilda Jane spring line. It will be released in 12 days!!! Go check out Denise's blog, she's doing all these fun contests to win some of her goodies. Of course I didn't win anything so far... I'm not lucky that way (I am lucky in other ways though, lol).

Ok, here's some link love to my auctions. Cross your fingers for me, I started them all at 99 cents again, even though the economy is in the toilet. There will be more listed by Thursday.

And you know what always happens to me when I'm listing? I end up browsing my old pictures to find the outfits in action. I found this picture of Grace taken on her first day of preschool... she was almost three. That dress was the beginning of our Naartjie addiction. That's my other big love!

If you made it this far, thanks for listening. I guess my hole can be a lonely place and I DO love to talk :-D!!!

Happy Valentines Day!!!

Wishing you all a day full of hugs & kisses!!

And you're allowed to laugh at our cookies... they do look a little bit like a nice round bum, don't they? :-D

A walk in the park

We had some errands to run in Vacaville and decided to take a walk in the park. It was kind of cold and windy, but still... it felt good to be outside. Of course I snapped lots of pictures. I just can't help myself :-).

The girls were wearing Matilda Jane, they love all the knit stuff, it's so comfortable! I think I came up with a rather unusual combo of green & pink... but I like it, it's funky!

Double AWWWWWW! I know I'm biased...

Then I saw a great brick wall.... oh, how I love brick walls!! Grace knew this would take forever and let's just say she was NOT thrilled. She was done... we were walking back to our car... done... no more pictures. But you know what? Even pictures of an upset child look adorable with a brick wall in the background :-D!!!

Erina was a good sport, isn't this a funny shot?

My pretty big girl... she's looking so grown up :-(

Look at Grace's body language. I didn't even notice how angry she was with me until I downloaded the pictures. I'm a mean mother!

The bird

The other day we went down to the Marina for some good outdoor playtime before the rainy days arrived (thanks, Sharon). These kids all get along so well, it's really amazing.

Brady called the girls over to a palm tree. All I heard was "I found something" and he made Maryrose lift up a piece of palm tree... under it was a dead bird. Of course all the girls started screaming and yelling like girls should. We told them not to touch the bird and left it alone.
They went off and played something else. Then I heard "Oh, let's have a funeral" with one ear... but I didn't really pay attention too much, I was having fun singing the itsy, bitsy spider to Maggie.

Before I knew it they came running back with a cup, coverd with a piece of wood (palm tree bark... or whatever you want to call it). Can you see where I'm going? They wanted to hold a funeral for the bird!! Smart Brady knew he wasn't allowed to touch the bird, so he pushed it into a cup with that piece of wood. They tossed the bird into the water to set him free. They watched him for a long time... will he sink or float? Then it was time to pray for the bird. Look at Janie... isn't she just too precious? She was giving it her all.
Look, we got them all to stand there for a cool picture... even Maggie!!!
She didn't last long though.
And who takes the coolest pictures??? Of course Sharon. Look at them all flocking around her!

To the little bird, I hope you rest in peace.

Scooter Love

Ah, Grace & her scooter. What a match made in heaven. The moment she gets home, she dashes out to the backyard to ride around our triangle shaped vegetable garden. She's fast, she's fearless, she's daring. I think she's feeling Spring in the air.

Round and round she went, giving me goofy faces.
Round and round she went... then she fell, smacked her knee... got back up & round and round she went again... fell again, got up again. You get the picture. It wasn't her day... or maybe it wasn't her scooters day. Who knows? All I know, I was there to capture her fall on camera. This was on fall number five.

Checking the knee...
Oh, no...! (Note that she didn't cry until she saw her knee ;-).
That's my girl... she can't be sad for long. Can you see her tears? I so wish I could have bigger pictures in this blog.
Back on she went... ready for fall number six. Nothing can hold my girl back.
And where was Erina all this time? She had to finish homework :-(. But she got a few rounds in as well... she was zooming so fast, I couldn't catch her. Funny picture, right?

More Art

I had to get the girls out of the house on Saturday. Brian started the battle against the bats yet again and that involves lots of bleach & fogger fumes. Not so good for little lungs.

So we headed to Bella Terra in Vacaville to paint some pottery. The girls were thrilled! They love this place. Erina actually celebrated her 7th birthday there and I believe we have not been back since. If you've never been there, go! There's just something about this place that makes me happy. It's very homey and you immediately feel free to wander around.

I asked the girls to pick out something useful for the house instead of another dust catching nick-nack ;-). Erina picked a butter dish and Grace a bowl. Then they picked out colors and painted for almost three hours!

I took lots of pictures... as always :-D!! I used my 50mm lens and kept it in manual mode to challenge myself. Oh, and the auto focus won't work for me anymore with this lens, so I had to do that manual as well. I'm quiet pleased how some of them came out!

Just starting out
Look at the concentration on her faceTrying to get an eyelash picture... geez, it's hard!!!You can tell my kids personalities just by the way they sit... Drying the first layer of paint
Dots & stripes... two of my favorites Working hard
Erina asked for my help and I kept taking pictures... so she gave me this look :-D
One happy kid
Top of the butter dish all done... and it won't be white, it's a speckled light purple We LOVE Bella Terra!!!
Hurry up, only twenty minutes until they close!
Final touch on Grace's bowl... ladybugs, so cute!
